Foxeim Affairs.

1. Hong Kong. Many English language papers deplore suggestions Colony be surrender to China, and Byrne's suggestion that status should await decisions of Foreign Minister Council. "Ottawa Citizen" however, says Hong Kong is Chinese, although held as British Colony for a century, that it could easily become a Colonial liability since China could develop another more favourably situated trading post, that it used to be different when British capital alone could build great Colonial ports, and that it will call for new economic vision in right places to restore British Colonial interest in Hong Kong.

Some comment also in French language papers. "La Patrie" says that to-day Canadians would certainly not fight Chinese, who are trying to liberate territory they feel to be theirs, while "Le Canada" considers Britain would be well advised to support French claims in Indo-China "if she wishes reasonable sympathy for her pretensions to Hong Kong".
